Perhaps the ultimate in contemporary bathroom design,

Wall hung is a toilet design where the pan is suspended off the floor, offering that little bit extra in terms of style, but also great practicality.  A wall hung pan is certainly easy to clean, the floor below can be mopped and the pan fits tight to the wall to minimise dirt traps.  And, yes, they are secure.  Properly fitted it can support weights in excess of 25 stones (160 Kg), so no need to worry about falling off!  Normally the pan is mounted on a steel frame with an integrated cistern and uses a large pattern flush plate.  This can be built into furniture of concealed in a stud wall, the flush plate taking care of maintenance issues by allowing access to the cistern workings.

The most common flushing style is the flush plate in conjunction with a dedicated wall mount frame.

However, as with the BTW, there is no requirement for the cistern to be immediately above the toilet pan as with an exposed cistern set up, leaving many options open to designers.  Placing the cistern away from the pan can offer space-saving potential in compact areas, and there is also the option of using an "in line" flush valve which will completely dispense with a cistern.

However some of these options bring complications so please always seek the advice of a plumber or designer who is familiar with them.

One important consideration when installing a WH toilet is access to the mechanism for maintenance.  Fail to provide an easy access to the cistern or flushing mechanism and your whole installation may need to be taken apart if any repairs or adjustments are ever needed.

Furniture designed for BTW or WH toilets will normally have a removable panel above the pan, or a removable top which permits easy access to the cistern, but where the cistern is being concealed in a wall or other feature, access MUST be considered.

The simple solution is to mount your WH pan on a dedicated metal frame/cistern combination and the large flush plate allows access if required.
