Back to Wall Toilet

To create a very neat feature in the bathroom use a Back to Wall (BTW) toilet.  The cistern is hidden and the pan fits tight to the wall, making for easy cleaning.

This style of toilet is ideal for use with fitted furniture, but also can work with modular furniture or within a completely minimalist theme.  The BTW toilet will be available in traditional or contemporary styles.

With a cistern hidden from general view there is scope for using a variety of flushing mechanisms.  Push buttons are the most commonly found or the larger flush plates sometimes, but lever flush is often employed on a period style traditional installation.

There is no requirement for the cistern to be immediately above the toilet pan as with an exposed cistern set up, leaving many options open to designers.  Placing the cistern away from the pan can offer space-saving potential in compact areas, and there is also the option of using an "in line" flush valve which will completely dispense with a cistern.

However some of these options bring complications so please always seek the advice of a plumber or designer who is familiar with them.

One important consideration when installing a BTW toilet is access to the mechanism for maintenance.  Fail to provide an easy access to the cistern or flushing mechanism and your whole installation may need to be taken apart if any repairs or adjustments are ever needed.

Furniture designed for BTW toilets will normally have a removable panel above the pan, or a removable top which permits easy access to the cistern, but where the cistern is being concealed in a wall or other feature, access MUST be considered.

Use of a large style flush plate with a dedicated cistern will solve this issue and is often a simple solution.
